To understand Vi, you got to understand Valoran. Though there are people that advocate peace in Valoran, almost every single culture has been shaped in some form by war. Vi grew up in a world where fighting is normal, and viewed as a way for anyone to get their goals. Sure, she was born in Piltover, one of the less war-like cities, but she was still shaped by the political state of her entire world, and as a result, was influenced by it.

Vi also has some unconscious issues with her past. This obviously brings up the question..so who the fuck was Vi? Where was she born and who were her parents? Why did she end up on the street? Canon doesn't tell me, but there's so much fanon and headcanon out there that it's like a buffet.

We know four things: 1) Vi isn't Vi's real name, as stated by her creator. 2) Vi has her name tattooed under her eye. 3) VI is also the numeral 6. 4) Vi's parents were non-existant. She was either an orphan, a runaway, or something else. See what I'm getting at??

Given all these factors, Vi is very likely some kind of "experiment" or clone, not necessarily created from scratch, but likely some kind of test subject, maybe even an illegal one. This is not far fetched given the technological level of Piltover. Since she escaped, or ran away, when she was very young, she likely has no conscious memory of being used in this way. Did someone help her escape?  Maybe, given the fact that she was little.

She likely does have unconscious sort of..remembrance of this, that usually manifests in weird dreams and a general malease about certain things. Vi would write these unconscious brain farts off as being her imagination. She probably believes herself to be an orphan.

Vi's been hardened by the streets. In the streets of any fictional setting, you show weakness, you get scoffed on. Gangsters, organized crime, and the like are common daily occurances. Since Vi was basically born on the streets because of her young age, she grew up all at once, and grew up as mean as a snake. Vi's rudeness, viciousness, and other negative traits make her feel "safe" and "secure." By refusing to show weakness, sympathy, or excessive kindness, she effectively protects herself against harm, but also prevents people from getting close. She is somewhat disillusioned, and views people as naturally manipulative and evil. However, her cold demeanor can break down, as shown when she forsakes her crew to help strangers survive.

Her way of showing affection towards people is by mocking and teasing them, because she doesn't know this can be offensive. Granted, some of her shit talk is genuine. She is unafraid to speak her mind and let people know when she hates them. So, she's grown up in a street culture where that is the way most people compliment each-other, by back handed teasing. This explains her almost bipolar interactions with Cait, in some occasions taunting her, and in other occasions being somewhat affectionate and encouraging. ("Boom, headshot!" "Yeah, teamwork!" "High-Five, Cupcake!" )

Vi has two in character interactions in game, a teasing jab at Jayce, and a whole ton of various interactions with Cait. Some people view this as Vi having a possible relationship with either of the characters. Here's my point of view!!

I think Vi likes Cait. I think she likes Cait, yeah. Through her teasing and silliness, I think deep down inside, she actually has feelings for the sherrif. This is pretty much fanon.

However, as of Vi being played by me, I do NOT think Cait reciprocates these feelings. I think Cait doesn't understand that Vi's mocking is just her screwing around, and takes offense. This might not be the case, but I personally think Vi is too "rough and tumble" to just admit to Cait that she has genuine feelings for her. The best way I can put it is that Vi is like the kid in the playground in gradeschool that pushes the girl she likes into the sandbox and bullies her relentlessly. See this video for a silly example. ( note: oh god this is so much like their situation.......... )

HOWEVER, hitting on her and hinting at saucy things may be something that happens in canon "off camera."

Maybe Vi doesn't admit her feelings because she's afraid of rejection, afraid of seeming soft, or afraid of..who knows what!

Noww, about Jayce. I think Vi views Jayce as a competition to get at Cait, mostly because they're from the same state, and Jayce is viewed as a hero. Her interaction with Jayce isn't positive, or sometimes-positive, like they are with Cait.
